This is Not About Love

This body of work was made following the ending of a ten year loving relationship. I became obsessed with the idea of writing a love letter but I never felt like I knew what words to write down. Each piece became the embodiment of a love letter. The back of the love letters, love letters rolled up or crumpled in a corner, or a careful collection and recreation of leaves I found on the goring in the fall of 2025, a way for me to hold on to that season even as it’s been gonefor a while now.
Madeleine Leplae (b. 1994) received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2017 and her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2025. She has exhibited in multiple group shows at Left Field along with Stowaway, Main Projects, Quarters Gallery, the Gentler International Drawing Space, Care of Gallery, Andrew Refacz and a solo show at the Cleaner Gallery.
